Guest speaker advises Wilson’s students to follow passions

The 2025 Academic Awards event at Wilson’s Hospital School was a great celebration of the students’ accomplishments and talents across a spectrum of endeavours.

Awards were given in the following categories: best Leaving Certificate results 2024, academic excellence in each year group, best Junior Cycle results 2024, Transition Year achievements, school core values, the prefects’ award and scholarship winners.

The guest of honour for the event was Melanie Lynch, founder and CEO of HerStory and an award-winning Irish communicator, social innovator and creative entrepreneur with almost 20 years of experience in the arts, education, advertising, and non-profit sectors. She is also a past student of Wilson’s Hospital School.

She made a moving speech talking about her experiences and urging students to follow their passions and not to be afraid of changing direction several times in their lives.

Teacher Colin Draper was MC for the event and acting deputy principal Siobhan Devaney prepared the awards for Ms Lynch to present. The Weafer Hall was full of students and their families and friends for the occasion.

Acting principal John Galligan addressed the school community saying how proud he is of the students and staff.

He congratulated all the students on their academic achievements including those who were receiving awards and also those who were not prize winners this time. He thanked the parents and families for their support of the school and thanked everyone involved in organising the event.

Congratulations to the students and their families and friends. It was lovely to come together as a school community in the Weafer Hall for an inspiring celebration.
