ICA members meet with MEP: Liz Gavigan, Helen O'Gorman, Maria Walsh, Rosaleen Madden

MEP Maria Walsh on Westmeath visit

Fine Gael MEP Maria Walsh paid a visit to a number of locations in Westmeath today on a whistle stop tour.

Ms Walsh represents the Midlands North West constituency in the European Parliament as part of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats).

She has had a busy day meeting with constituents: “We started off in Streamstown this morning, visiting the national school. I was very kindly invited by a fantastic teacher called Michaela Barrington. I spoke to third to sixth class and it was probably one of my favourite school visits I've ever done.”

The MEP was treated to a display of set dancing by the pupils: “This is rural Ireland at its best, they were just so welcoming. After that I met the group of girls running the Yoga Picnic that kicks off on July 5. It was great to be part of their launch,” Ms Walsh said, “I then met with the family that runs Kilbeggan Organic Foods.

“Such meetings help me in my work on the agriculture committee and preparing for the next Common Agriculture Policy. I am now just about to meet with members of the Westmeath ICA now.”

The MEP marks the conclusion of the first year of her second term tomorrow. The Westmeath Examiner will feature an interview with MEP Walsh in next week's paper.
