Good Folk Festival returns to Canton Casey’s

As the sun set on the Market Square on the Friday evening, the sounds of The Good Folk Festival in Canton Casey’s brought a summer feel to the bank holiday weekend.

The festival, described as Mullingar’s ‘Coolest little festival’, returned to the town after a successful debut last year.

There were five nights of free music in Canton Casey’s, from Wednesday May 28 to Sunday June 1.

A range of different acts played throughout the week in the upstairs bar, and the view of the town provided a perfect backdrop for the performers.

The performers were Harry Fennell and Daniel Allen, Ronan O Snodaigh, Myles O’Reilly and Samuel Olivia, Beat Club and Someone’s Sons, Mik Pyro and Paulie Martin, and Sugar Ray.

Festival organiser Ben Mulligan said: “It was just a beautiful few days for Mullingar, and I was really happy with the turnout and am proud of how it went.

“We were blessed with the weather, and you can’t beat some music and a sunny evening in the Market Square.”

Ben added: “All the artists were delighted with the venue, it’s such an intimate space and we all made sure to look after them very well.

“Even Mick Pyro was delighted to be there, he hadn’t played in Mullingar since the early 2000s before last year, so this all creates a good dynamic to try and draw in more big artists to come to Mullingar and help our music scene grow.”
