2,500 claims for Storm Éowyn compensation in Westmeath

Some 2,570 claims for compensation for losses resulting from Storm Éowyn were lodged with the Department of Social Protection (DSP) by applicants in Westmeath, figures released to TG4 have shown.

The figures from the DSP showed that in total, under the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme opened after the extensive damage caused by the storm in January, there were 93,007 applications lodged from across the country, in respect of 75,733 people. The claims total almost €12.8m.

County Galway had the highest amount of applications with 30,592, County Mayo had the second highest with 17,303, and County Roscommon had the third highest with 8,702 applications. Westmeath came 10th on the list.

There were 22,149 applicants nationally whose claims have been decided and have not been awarded a payment in respect of Storm Éowyn.
