The cast from Wilsons Hospital School after their performance of Grease The Musical

Wilsons Hospital School perform Grease The Musical

After nearly a decade away from the limelight, Wilson’s Hospital School returned to the world of school musicals with a vibrant, high-energy production of Grease the Musical.

Bringing Grease to life was no small feat, with many of the Transition Year students having little to no experience in acting, singing, or musical theatre at the start of the academic year, the production quickly became a story of growth, dedication, and community spirit.

Mullingar native Jasmine McClean was ecstatic when she landed the role of Sandy, saying: “Playing this role has brought me so much joy and fulfilment. Seeing how close everybody got has been such a good experience.”

Aran Cahalan from Clonard overcame nerves to land the role of Danny and grew in confidence at each rehearsal.

He thinks the musical was “an incredible experience that I would recommend to anyone, no matter how sure or unsure you are of yourself”.

The stage in the school’s Concert Hall was extended and renovated, and a fabulous mural was painted on the back wall.

The students took charge of everything from designing posters, managing ticket sales, sourcing props, manufacturing any props like diner booths and Grease lightning cars that could not be sourced, dressmaking, and sourcing leather jackets for the T Birds and pink ones for the glamorous Pink Ladies.

Along with this, there were many students included on each night of the musical doing hair and makeup, stagehands and looking after the lighting and sound system for the production.

The whole team’s efforts paid off as each show night saw an enthusiastic crowd pack out the school’s Concert Hall, bringing with them a buzz of anticipation and community pride.

Ms Lindsay wrapped up the final by thanking all the students involved. “We picked the right people, all very talented and they performed brilliantly.
