Mullingar Tidy Towns help plant 150 native saplings at St Kenny's NS
Mullingar Tidy Towns has donated and planted almost 2000 native sapling trees around Mullingar as part of its 3000 trees for Mullingar programme.
As part of this programme, Mullingar Tidy Towns visited St Kenny’s National School and provided over 150 native sapling trees.
The trees were donated to Mullingar Tidy Towns by Coillte/Crann Tres for Ireland.
The group held a competition as part of the programme, where classes were urged to draw a picture and write a story on their new sapling trees.
The winners of the competition were: Joshua Craig, Ethan Fitzpatrick, Jack Fay, Grace Allen McEntee, and Laoise Duffy.
A spokesperson for Mullingar Tidy Towns said: “A special thanks must go out to the school Green School Committee who work hard in promoting biodiversity, sustainability and all things nature in their school.
“Lots of work goes into their community garden at the school, where the students learn how to plant and grow their own fruit and veg.
“Another special thanks goes out to PJ Fitzpatrick from Crann who gives up his free time to help us here at Mullingar Tidy Towns on our tree planting programme.”
