Traffic plan in place for new school in St Finian's grounds
Measures are already being put in place to manage traffic effectively at the new Sacred Heart School, due to open shortly in the grounds of St Finian’s College on the Old Longford Road.
District engineer, Pat Kavanagh, informed Cllr Bill Collentine at the June meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad that he had met with the school principal and vice principal last week and they had come up with a plan.
“We have actually moved the speed limit since that meeting and we've also put down more markings and signage on the road on the approach to the school from the N4,” he said.
Cllr Collentine told the meeting that he’d had the pleasure of visiting the school, and was impressed by it: he was just concerned at the increased traffic movements that would be generated.
Bus stop
At the same meeting, Cllr Dollard asked that the district liaise with An Garda Síochána and possibly erect out signage to ensure that the bus stop is free at all times to facilitate bus pick-ups and drop-offs to help with the traffic flow in Castle St and Austin Friar St.
To this, the written response stated that the district will liaise with An Garda Síochána and the traffic wardens to police the bus stops.
