Castlepollard Community College celebrated the 20th anniversary of the college this year. The education institute opened its doors two decades ago this year to 90 students and 10 teachers, and it now accommodates 344 students and 40 teachers.
The Student Awards Night ceremony recognises academic excellence, creative expression, sporting endeavours, leadership, personal growth and community spirit.
The award ceremony included a special guest speaker, music from the choir and instrumental group and also celebrated the achievements of the Transition Year group.
Principal Natasha Greville told the gathering: “Your presence reflects the strong sense of partnership that lies at the heart of our school community. Tonight we gather to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students across a broad spectrum to this school life.”
Ms Greville highlighted the importance of the evening: “These awards are about more than just results. They recognise the values that we hold dear. Excellence in education, care, respect, community and equality.”
The staff of Castlepollard Community College were thanked for their “unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, to student wellbeing and to nurturing the potential in every young person” in the school.
“You embody the vision of our school,” Ms Greville said, “a school that is inclusive, learner centred and driven by deep sense and collective purpose. Your hard work and dedication make Castlepollard Community College the school it is today for our students.
“To our board of management, we are very grateful for your support, your leadership and your belief in the transformative power of education.”
Donie Cassidy, chairperson of the board of management, congratulated all the young people who were in attendance: “To our students, tonight is about you. Your dedication, your talents and your skills, they fill us with pride and hope for the future. Whether you are receiving an award or have been nominated for an award, know that this is a fantastic achievement and one you should be very proud of.”
He spoke all who helped with the successes of the last 20 years: “I want to congratulate the parents in particular,” Mr Cassidy said. “Without the support of the parents and the parents association and organisation of this college, Castlepollard Community College would not be where it is.”
The awards night was an opportunity to recognise the many successes of the school: “We had over 50 awards to present in areas such as academic and sporting endeavours. The awards recognise the commitment of students to the ethos of Castlepollard Community College,” James McGrath, deputy principal said.
“The success of girls sport in the college over the last 10 years has been magnificent.
“Year after year the girls have worked on the progress of previous years. They were very unlucky not to win the Leinster title.”
Among those to receive the awards handed out on the evening were Jack McCormack, Student of the Year, Progress Award was won by Ryan Dobson Fagan, Ethos Award to Christina Byrne Kelly and Alex Mills received the Misneach Award.
