The approved plans by Andrews Construction will also include a two-storey crèche, 442 car parking spaces across the entire site, 550 secure bicycle parking spaces and a communal open space.

Grant permission with revised conditions

A review of the original planning application approved by Westmeath County Council was requested by the Ardmore Road Residents Association and Dara and Fiona O'Shea.

In reaching their determination the national planning body said: “...subject to compliance with the conditions set out below, the proposed development would not seriously injure the residential and visual amenities of the area, would not have a negative impact on the character of the area, would be acceptable in terms of density and unit and household mix.”

An Coimisiún Pleanála attached 26 conditions to the approved plans.

Westmeath County Council planners are also in the process of reviewing a planning application for a substantial new estate near the Andrews Construction site on the outskirts of Mullingar.

KDM Construction Ltd, of The Crescent, Boyle, Roscommon, applied for permission to develop 104 new homes on a site at Ardmore Road, Ballinderry, Mullingar.
