Local musician is ready to take on the world

From Phantom of the Opera to Spotify, the world is there for the taking for young musician and actor Sean McDonnell, who released his newest single ‘On The Pier’, on Saturday, June 14.

Sean started playing the guitar when he was just eight years old, before teaching himself piano at 10, and now he is aiming to get his music out there.

Sean has also been heavily involved with Mullingar Arts Centre for many years, recently taking part in Phantom of the Opera, which was a huge success.

Speaking on his early days of playing music, Sean said: “I remember I bought my first guitar out of my communion money and my grandad taught me all the tips and tricks involved in playing the guitar.

“That just instilled a love for music in me, I taught myself piano just after that and I've been playing both instruments ever since.”

Sean’s music is of a folk singer/songwriter style, and he takes inspiration from the likes of Bob Dylan, John Denver and Tom Odell.

When asked where he'd like to see his career going in 10 years' time, Sean said: “I hope that my music has reached a lot of people by then, I hope that some people find it meaningful, because I just want people to be able to relate to my music and connect with it.

“I would also hope that I was involved in a show in London or somewhere like that because I love performing as well.”
