Gaffney urges action on ‘flying traffic’ at Delvin
Traffic calming measures are to be considered for the R395 between Delvin Graveyard and Stoneyford Park, on foot of a request made by Cllr Niall Gaffney at the June meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.
The official written response to Cllr Gaffney’s request stated that the work would be considered as part of future estimates.
“People are flying,” Cllr Gaffney told the meeting, saying there was a certain urgency to the situation, and suggesting that local residents be canvassed on where the best location for a ramp might be.
Support came from Cllr David Jones, who said there is a high volume of traffic at that location.
“I wouldn't be opposed to putting ramps on that location. We'll be installing a lot of ramps in the next couple of months. We'll certainly have a look at it,” district engineer Pat Kavanagh assured the two men.
Flooding
At the same meeting, Cllr Gaffney asked that the district carry out works on the Kilrush Road, Clonmellon, to prevent flooding and excess surface water entering onto the neighbouring property.
“The Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad has advised that they will carry out maintenance on the existing surface water system to resolve any drainage issues at this location,” the official response to his request read.
