Ciaran Mullooly makes strong statement at European Parliament
MEP for the Midlands North West Constituency, Ciaran Mullooly, made a statement at the European Parliament in Brussels this week, detailing the dire situation in Gaza.
As talk of a ceasefire continues, UNICEF confirmed that an average of 112 children a day are being treated for malnutrition, within the first five months of 2025.
Along with this, 85% of Gaza is under displacement orders by the Israeli Government, forcing thousands of civilians to flee on foot and bringing only what they can carry.
Mullooly said: “The starvation and murder of women and children will never be accepted under any circumstances in my book.
“This comes at a time when the President of the European Commission insisted on telling the world that Israel’s action on the world stage can be described as an act of self-defence.
Ciaran continued: “I deplore the comments of the Commission President, which have only served to heighten tensions at a time when leaders in Europe should be moving mountains to make peace.”
Very few supplies or fuel have entered Gaza in recent months, due to the 11-week blockage by Israeli Authorities, although this has been lifted, what has made it through falls short of what is needed.
The Midlands North West MEP said: “While letting the UN bring in some nutrition and medical supplies, Israeli authorities have banned most other items, including fuel, gas, shelter and hygiene products.
“The authorities have not allowed UNRWA to bring in any aid into Gaza for nearly four months now.”
It remains unknown what the result of ceasefire talks may bring; at the same time, people in Gaza are in urgent need of care.
