Delvin charity tractor run expands in popularity

Despite showers of rain the annual Delvin charity tractor and vintage car run saw a fantastic turnout with over 100 tractors and 20 vintage cars taking part.

The event received great support from the local community in Delvin. The run took off from Delvin Mart and went through Collinstown, and from there wended a trail that ended at Glenidan.

One of the organisers of the annual event, Cllr David Jones, said the money is raised to support local causes: “We'll be having a meeting during the week to discuss which local causes to support this year.

“We encourage any local group to get in touch if they have a wish list or specific needs, we're more than happy to discuss it at our next committee meeting.”

The tractor run, which started back in 2013, was founded by a group of friends, many of whom were just 17 or 18 at the time. Now in their thirties, the group continues to organise the hugly popular event with the same community spirit.

“It's funny, these days, young people are encouraging their parents to take part. It’s become a bit of a craze, especially with TikTok and Snapchat. Everyone wants to be involved,” Cllr Jones said.

“We're just a group of friends who usually meet up on Thursday evenings for a chat and a drink. We get everything organised together.” he told the Examiner.

With the amazing success of the 2025 Delvin Tractor run plans are already underway for next year's event.

Cllr Jones said a huge amount of credit goes to the committee and all the volunteers who made the event possible, and a massive thank you to their sponsors.

There will be more pictures from the tractor run in next week's Examiner.
