Public invited to have say on Mullingar, and on outdoor recreation across county
Westmeath County Council is inviting members of the public to take part in two separate consultations that could help shape the future of the county, one focused on long-term planning for Mullingar, and the other on outdoor recreation across Westmeath.
The first consultation concerns a proposed variation to the Westmeath County Development Plan 2021-2027, specifically to incorporate a Settlement Area Plan for Mullingar.
It will also integrate new Specific Planning Policy Requirements (SPPRs) from the recently published Sustainable Residential Development and Compact Settlements Guidelines for Planning Authorities.
Full details of the proposed variation and how to make a submission are available on the Westmeath County Council's public consultation portal and a printed copy can be viewed in the council’s offices in Mullingar.
The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Tuesday August 13.
The second consultation invites public input on the Westmeath Outdoor Recreation Plan, which seeks feedback on existing outdoor recreation opportunities and suggestions for future improvements.
Residents are encouraged to complete an online survey (https://tinyurl.com/jbpv7veh), which will remain open until Thursday August 8.
The Westmeath Public Participation Network (PPN) is encouraging local residents and community groups to take part in both consultations, noting that public input is vital in helping shape effective and inclusive policies for the county’s future.
