Council planning path upgrades on Dublin and Ardmore Roads
Westmeath County Council plans to upgrade roads and paths on the Dublin Road, Mullingar, from the N52 Marlinstown roundabout to Bellview Clinic, and the Ardmore Road, from the Dublin Road to Ardmore Hills.
Notices providing details have been placed along the route.
The works will cover about 2.5km and include: new or improved footpaths (minimum width 1.8m); two-way cycle tracks for approximately 1.7km (minimum width 2m); some 330m of shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists; bus stop infrastructure; pedestrian crossings; and traffic calming measures.
There will be upgrades including safer pedestrian crossings to the roundabout at the National Science Park, and upgrades of all junctions including provision of pedestrian crossings.
The plans will tie-in to existing Active Travel facilities on Ardmore Road, and existing on-road cycle paths on the Dublin Road approaching the Delvin Road junction.
Vehicular carriageway widths will be 6.5m on the Dublin Road and 6m on the Ardmore Road.
The council notice (dated July 16) states that the project has been checked for environmental impacts and doesn’t need further environmental assessment.
It adds: In accordance with Article 80 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001-2025, plans and particulars of the proposal will be available for inspection at consult.westmeathcoco.ie/en and may also be inspected at the council offices till August 18 next.
The deadline for submissions or feedback is 4pm on September 1 next (online or by post).
The council notice concludes: All submissions or observations received will form part of a statutory report to be presented to Westmeath County Council and will form part of a public document. The information provided will be shared with relevant council departments or their agents and published on the council website and available at its public offices.
