Ford focus as Killucan club host vintage charity run
There was a focus on Ford when Killucan Vintage Club hosted a vintage vehicle road run on Sunday, July 20. Enthusiasts gathered to celebrate vehicles that where 30 years and older, and classic Ford tractors and cars in particular.
The club, founded in 2010 by a small group of vintage enthusiasts, was originally formed after a “ladies-only” tractor run needed an official club to participate. The first run featured 32 tractors, and the group has since grown to more than 36 active members and events regularly attracts more than 80 vintage vehicles.
“This all started with a few locals who loved vintage tractors,” Carol Moore, one of the organisers and founders, said.
Sunday’s event was organised to raise funds for local charities including North Westmeath Hospice Palliative Care Service, St Camillus Patients Comfort Fund, and The Killucan Raharney Golden Years Club. The route took participants by canal, through Killucan village, stopping at Nanny Quinn’s and Mary Lynch’s, before looping back. After the run, attendees enjoyed a BBQ and raffle, and all proceeds went directly to the charities.
The event also received support from local businesses, including David Smyth Catering, whose sponsorship helped make the day a success.
“We appreciated all the support, from sponsors to volunteers to the public,” Carol said. “It’s a great day for the whole community.”
