Wayne Gallagher during his stopover in Mullingar

Well deserved break for Wayne in Mullingar

Kinnegad Man, Wayne Gallagher, who is travelling from Galway to Dublin via Skateboard, passed through Mullingar today (July 26).

Wayne is travelling the 207 kilometre distance in aid of Mullingar-based children's charity ‘Helium Arts’.

Wayne is travelling by road, canal and greenway to meet his family who are waiting for him in Dublin.

Interestingly, upon finishing, Wayne will be the first person to cross the country on a skateboard.

Speaking on his journey so far, Wayne said: “The roads from Galway were quite rough, I ended up having to stop nearly every 2km, just to take a break.

“My heart rate was about 180 for around five hours yesterday, today hasn't been as bad as it hasn't gone over 160.”

When asked about his plans for the rest of the journey, Wayne said: “I'm going to make my way through Kinnegad, then to Enfield, Kilcock, Maynooth, and try to use the old Dublin road.

“I just hope it's not as bad as the Galway to Athlone road, I'm not feeling too bad really, my s are a bit sore and my ankles are swollen, I'll get through it.”
