Saying it with flowers
Two separate appeals to have floral displays provided in Mullingar were made at the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.
Cllr Julie McCourt appealed to have some provided on the Joe Dolan Bridge while Cllr Bill Collentine asked that the district plant flowers on the roundabout on the Ashe Road/ C link road to improve its appearance.
Cllr McCourt, said she would welcome provide floral pots, hanging baskets and possibly a bench or two. “The Joe Dolan Bridge is named as the longest in the republic and is on the Joe Dolan tourist trail. It is bland, dull. Any enhancement would be appreciated by locals and tourists who enter Mullingar at that point,” she stated.
The reply from the district stated that hanging baskets have been installed on the bridge and that the provision of a bench can be examined it a suitable location can be determined.
Cllr Collentine also received a positive response: “The Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad has advised that they will carry out the planting,” it stated.
