Peter Burke calls number of passports issued "incredible".

Almost six thousand passports issued in Westmeath this year

Peter Burke TD has urged all individuals in Westmeath to check their passport expiry dates before travelling, while also urging people to apply quickly in the case of a renewal.

Across the country, over 600,000 new passports have been issued, with 5,823 of those being issued to people in Westmeath alone.

Speaking on this, Peter Burke said: “It's incredible to see that 5,823 passports have already been issued for Westmeath this year and over 600,00 have been issued nationwide.”

Minister Burke went on to discuss the importance of checking your passports, saying: “Anyone planning on travelling in the next few weeks should check their passport now and, if needed, apply for renewal online well ahead of their departure date.

“The best time to check your passport is before you book a holiday, but if you’ve already booked, it's vital to confirm your passport is in date.

“Passport online is the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective way to apply. I’d encourage everyone to use this service where possible.”

Peter Burke went on to thank the staff at the Passport Service for their hard work in processing so many applications.

“I’d also like to remind anyone who needs to renew their passport urgently that the urgent appointment service is available at the Passport offices in Dublin and Cork.

Peter Burke concluded: “When you are booking your holidays, be prepared and make sure your passport is in date.”
