DBC welcomes chartered physiotherapist Oisin Quinn

One of Ireland’s most innovative Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinics, DBC Chartered Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine, located on the grounds of Charter Medical Private Hospital in Ballinderry, has been steadily building a reputation for excellence since opening its doors in late 2021. Now, the clinic has taken another confident step forward by welcoming a dynamic new team member: chartered physiotherapist Oisin Quinn.

With a C.V. that boasts both academic rigour and global experience, Westmeath native Oisin joins DBC Mullingar at an exciting time of growth and evolution. A graduate in Athletic Therapy and Training from Dublin City University, he went on to earn his Masters in Physiotherapy at University College Cork. Since then, his career has spanned both public and private healthcare sectors, including one year working with elite athletes in Australia and two years as Physio for the Monaghan Senior Football Team. From high-performance sports to post-surgical recovery, Oisin brings a versatile skill set and infectious enthusiasm to every patient interaction.

What sets DBC apart and indeed makes it the perfect match for a clinician like Oisín is the clinic’s structured, evidence-based approach to rehabilitation. Developed in collaboration with leading orthopaedic and neurosurgery consultants, our Clinical Director, Liam Heavin ensures that DBC’s programs are laser-focused on active recovery. The ethos is clear: movement is medicine. This philosophy translates into quicker recovery times, better functional mobility, and long-lasting pain relief for patients.

Liam is one of Ireland’s most experienced back and neck rehabilitation specialists. He holds a Masters Degree in Sports Medicine from Trinity College Dublin, as well as his undergraduate Physiotherapy Degree from Satakunnan University in Finland. Annually, he sees over 200 cases of back and neck pain; the majority of whom are long-term sufferers with the condition. Most patients are seen following referral from their Consultant (Spinal Orthopaedic / Neurosurgeon / Rheumatologist), and rehabilitation programs form part of a wider management of their back or neck pain which often includes pain management injections.

Working alongside Senior Physiotherapist Mark Byrne, who has led the Mullingar clinic since its inception, Oisín will play a key role in expanding access to the cutting-edge services DBC is known for. Mark, a respected name in the Midlands physio community, has helped build Mullingar’s state-of-the-art facility into a cornerstone for sports rehab and spinal care – backed by partnerships with Westmeath GAA and Westmeath LGFA. Oisín’s arrival strengthens an already formidable team.

Beyond traditional rehab, the clinic offers services that are second-to-none. From 3D Biomechanics assessments, to focused shockwave therapy for soft tissue injuries and the NASA-developed Alter-G Anti Gravity Treadmill, DBC provides access to services that are reshaping how we understand and support recovery. Patients can expect expert assessments and 45-minute supervised gym-based rehabilitation sessions guided by experienced chartered physiotherapists. It’s this blend of high-tech capability and patient-centred care that drew Oisín to DBC. “I enjoy working with a wide range of patients,” he says, “from those recovering after surgery to athletes pushing for peak performance.” His passion for helping others achieve their best – whether it’s walking pain-free or returning to the pitch – is evident in every word.

Also key to the Mullingar operation is physiotherapist Francis Namaja Mussa, who is involved in the in-patient program at Charter Medical’s Step Down Unit. He also runs weekly Group Physio Based Exercise Classes for people presenting with Parkinson’s in conjunction with the charity Move4Parkinson’s. His goal is to help improve mobility, enhance functional independence and optimize their quality of life through tailored rehabilitation programs and evidence-based physiotherapy techniques. Francis’ work with Parkinson’s and neurorehab patients reflects DBC’s cross-disciplinary commitment to care, ensuring each patient benefits from a bespoke plan tailored to their individual needs.

With a team like this, it’s no wonder that referrals to DBC Mullingar continue to grow. The clinic’s links with orthopaedic consultants in the midlands and Dublin, rapid-access pain clinics and fast-tracked medical imaging through Alliance Medical make it a top-tier choice for both GPs and specialists seeking the best for their patients.

As Mullingar cements its place on the map for sports medicine and rehab, Oisín Quinn’s arrival is more than just a staffing update – it’s a signal of intent. A young physiotherapist with experience, drive, and a deep understanding of the science behind recovery, he embodies the future of patient care. And for the people of Westmeath and beyond, that future looks strong, pain-free, and full of movement.

DBC Mullingar is open to the general public to self-refer in addition to GP/Consultant referrals. Local sports clubs are also invited to contact the clinic for special rates. Clinical Administrator Pam Waterhouse is available on 044 93 62400 or by email at cmph@dbc.ie.
