Mullingar man Finbar Coady held a private screening of his new film ‘Who Dares, Wins’ in the Greville Arms Hotel on Friday July 18. Originally from Waterford City, Finbar is now living in Mullingar and has been a mainstay of Mullingar’s famed music scene for many years.
Finbar’s has regularly graced the stage as a singer, entertainer, and songwriter, and though he has been involved in some films, Who Dares, Wins marks his first time fully producing a film.
Finbar said: “Although I’ve been in a few independent movies, this is my first go at writing, directing, producing and acting in a movie.
“It’s a huge job, but it’s good – good performances, a good story, and I’m very proud of it.”Discussing the storyline, Finbar said: “It’s a modern love story, there are all elements of the LGBTQ+ community in it.
“It’s set in a tattoo shop because a friend of mine used to have a tattoo and piercing shop, and I just thought it was a bizarre place.”
The hero of the story is a guy called Ricky, and he falls in love with a woman who works in a place down the street from him.
“She’s not really into him, but they go on this rollercoaster ride anyway and finally there is a happy ending.”
Finbar described the response he received during the film première: “The screening was brilliant and the response was great.
“For 17 minutes, they got completely caught up in the story, they laughed, they smiled and they shuffled their feet.
Finbar concluded: “As an artist, it was a really gratifying experience, to see a creation of mine take its own path was just lovely.”
