Mullingar Hospital getting new solar panels and windows
The Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, is in for a significant upgrade over the coming months, having secured substantial funding for the upgrades.
The overall package totals €6.5m for much-needed development works, which include the installation of solar panels, upgrading their air handling units, and replacement of windows.
The funding is from the Capital and Estates Sustainable Infrastructure Office, with an aim to reduce their buildings' energy consumption.
Having originally started on July 14, the works aim to be fully completed by the end of October this year.
Works can be seen taking place across Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar, with scaffolding visible on the facade of the building, above the entrance.
In a response to a query by the Westmeath Examiner, HSE Dublin and Midlands said: “These works will reduce energy consumption and associated carbon emissions while improving the comfort levels for staff, patients and visitors.
“These works are necessary to help the HSE achieve mandated climate action targets to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. The new developments will also refresh the hospital’s appearance.”
