Robyn Kelly claims Irish U23 title in fine style
Ballynacargy boxer Robyn Kelly won her tenth Irish title at the weekend when she overcame Niamh Keogh of the Olympic Boxing Club, Mullingar in the U23 decider at the National Stadium, Dublin.
Robyn claimed a first title at that grade in the process and has qualified to represent Ireland at the European Championships in Armenia at the end of October. The 20-year-old sensation boxed really well, controlling the three rounds and winning by unanimous decision, 5-0.
Robyn defeated Chloe Gabriel in the semi-final to set up the all-Westmeath decider and her level of experience really showed as she dominated her opponents. It was a mature performance for such a young sporting star and she is clearly determined to build on her previous European experiences.
Robyn thanked all her supporters and paid tribute to her coaching team. Robyn’s semi-final victory over Chloe Gabriel ensured she avenged the defeat in the senior final and it is further proof that she is a rising star. She prepared really well with a good camp for the national final, and that paid off. Robyn was European Bronze Medal winner two years ago and has four European medals in all. She is now bidding to go even better in Armenia.
