Over 350 girls set for Leinster U10 blitz at St Loman’s
Dovida Lakepoint Park in Mullingar will be abuzz with activity on this coming Saturday, August 23, when St Loman’s, Mullingar host their sixth annual LGFA U10 Leinster blitz.
Some 24 teams from 18 clubs across seven counties will descend on the Delvin Road venue on Saturday afternoon for a feast of high-quality football in what will hopefully be ideal weather conditions.
All are welcome to enjoy the thrills and spills as two teams from St Loman’s will be joined by their counterparts from Mullingar Shamrocks and Moate to represent Westmeath in this provincial football extravaganza.
Dublin powerhouses Cuala and St Sylvester’s will be among the visiting teams, along with Carbury, Celbridge, Sarsfields (Kildare), Portlaoise (Laois), Ballymore, Killoe, St Mary’s Granard (Longford), Navan O’Mahony’s, Seneschalstown, St Ultan’s, Trim (Meath), Ballinamere-Durrow and Naomh Molaoise (Offaly).
The organisers, led by St Loman’s LGFA chairman Ted Cronin, have ensured that all games played by each team (three 20-minute games) will be against teams from another county, which adds to the novelty of the event.
With more than 350 girls involved, Dovida Lakepoint Park is the place to be this Saturday afternoon for what is one of the largest events of its kind in Leinster.
Teams will start to gather from noon, and the throw-in for the first games is at 1pm sharp. Games continue until around 3.30pm.
Refreshments will be served at the clubhouse, with members of the St Loman’s senior ladies’ team, the current county champions, running a shop and cake sale to raise funds for the ladies’ club.
