Unequal treatment of school secretaries, caretakers ‘shameful’ – ASTI president

The ASTI wholeheartedly supports Fórsa’s industrial action in pursuit of access to the Single Public Service Pension Scheme for all school secretaries and caretakers.

Speaking today, ASTI president Padraig Curley said school secretaries and caretakers play vital roles in schools all over the country.

“School staff work together every day to provide inclusive and supportive environments for children and young people. It is shameful that the principle of equal treatment is being denied to school secretaries and caretakers who are highly valued members of our school communities.

“It is unacceptable that government policy ensures a situation in schools where school secretaries and caretakers are deprived of a basic entitlement which is provided to the colleagues they work alongside.”

The ASTI president Padraig Curley and general secretary Kieran Christie will lead an ASTI delegation at Fórsa’s national rally in Dublin, outside the offices of the Department of Public Expenditure.
