Cumann Lár Thíre Dhún na nGall Children’s Sports Day called off due to weather

The Cumann Lár Thíre Dhún na nGall Children’s Sports Day that had been arranged for the Mullingar Shamrocks grounds this Sunday, August 31, has been postponed.

In a note to the Westmeath Examiner, the organisers stated: "Regrettably, due to a weather forecast of rain and thunderstorms on Sunday 31st, Cumann Lár Thíre Dhún na nGall have been forced to cancel the children's sports day until further notice. Apologies to all concerned... we will update in due course."

A big thanks to Shamrocks, to Joe Tynan, who is supplying the burgers and sausages, and all the committee, whose training schedule for the Three-legged Race and Sack race has not been too badly disrupted. ‘Big weans’, as we say in Donegal.

As well as the aforementioned gruelling events, we will have welly throwing, egg and spoon races and 100 metres for various underage participants. Joe’s burgers could well decide who wins our inaugural tug-o-war challenge.

It’s important to stress that it is an all inclusive kids day… not just for those with Dún na nGall DNA, so everybody is welcome.

If you would like to volunteer your services on the day, contact our WhatsApp group, still called Donegal Association Group Mullingar.

There will be no admission fee on the day but ‘wee’ donations will be gratefully accepted.
