September closing date for Westmeath built heritage grants
Westmeath property owners with structures of cultural significance have been invited to apply for funding under the built heritage investment scheme.
Westmeath County Council is inviting applications to apply to the built heritage investment scheme (BHIS) 2026. This scheme offers funding of between €2,500 and €50,000 for repair or conservation works to qualifying structures.
The BHIS offers smaller grants for maintenance and repairs to protected structures, vernacular buildings, and historic shopfronts, while the HSF provides larger grants for significant conservation projects.
Invitations are also invited for the BHIS historic thatch buildings (HTB) fund 2026 for the conservation of historic thatched buildings.
Applications are assessed by an expert panel within the local authority. They base their assessment on the significance of the structure, the effectiveness of the project in terms of delivering value for money and protecting the structure into the future, and the quality of the proposed works.
Further details and application forms for each of these grant schemes can be found on the local authority's Conservation & Heritage Grants page.
The deadline for submission of completed applications is 4:00pm on September 26, 2025
