Forty-eight teams tee up for Club Iarmhí Golf Classic

Westmeath Club Iarmhí hosted its annual Golf Classic on Friday August 15, with an impressive turnout of 48 teams for what has become a much-anticipated event in the county’s sporting calendar.

Frank Mescall, chairman of Westmeath GAA’s County Committee, expressed his gratitude to all who participated, and extended special thanks to Renault for their continued sponsorship and generous contribution of prizes again this year. He also thanked Club Iarmhí for organising the Golf Classic event.

Paul Daly, chairman of Club Iarmhí, in his address to those present, offered heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the day. In particular, he praised the outstanding efforts of the organising committee, led by Des Maguire, and acknowledged the invaluable help of Patricia, Bernie, and Rose, who kept everyone well-fed with delicious burgers throughout the event.

Paul also expressed appreciation to Mullingar Golf Club for hosting the event, noting the immaculate condition of the course and the high standard of catering provided. The professionalism of the catering and grounds staff did not go unnoticed and added greatly to the overall experience.

The competition was strong, with many teams battling it out for top honours. The winners on the day were:

1st Place (98 pts): Fagan’s Office Supplies; 2nd Place (97 pts): Smiddy's Bar; 3rd Place (96 pts): Charlestown Racing; Non-GUI Winner (95 pts): TEG

Individual prizes were also awarded, as follows: Men’s Longest Drive: Finbar Coyne; Ladies’ Longest Drive: Joanne Charles; Nearest the Pin (15th Tee): Paul Coll (Delvin GAA).

Overall, it was a fantastic day of golf, camaraderie, and community spirit - all in support of Westmeath GAA.
