Mullingar Camera Club focus on beginning of new season

If you have an interest in photography and would like to develop your skills, learn new ones and get to know people who share that interest, this is a good time of the year.

That’s because Mullingar Camera Club start the 2025/26 season on Wednesday, September 10, at Áras an Mhuilinn, beside Mullingar Arts Centre (meetings are 7.30-9pm).

The committee have organised another busy season packed with workshops, competitions, lectures and the social events.

The September 10 night will provide members an opportunity to catch up on what they were doing over the summer break, and an opportunity for new members to meet like minded people who share their passion in photography.

With so many genres, landscape, seascape, sport, portrait and more, there will be a lot to discuss, so if you are thinking about getting into photography or wondering what camera you should buy, the members of Mullingar Camera Club will be glad to help.

Next week the club launch their annual exhibition in the Atrium in the County Buildings.

The exhibition is a great chance to highlight the collective talent of club members and to present their images to a wide audience. While submitting photograph for public viewing can be a bit daunting, there are many benefits.

Exhibiting photos brings greater awareness of the photographer’s style, theme, strengths and areas to develop. It gives the ability to discuss photography with others and it gives the photographer more confidence to exhibit again.

The exhibition will run for two weeks.

During the summer, Mullingar hosted an open photograph competition for amateur photographers in Westmeath. Entrants were asked to submit up to three photos of their choice, the only stipulation that the photo be taken on the island of Ireland.

It was the club’s first time to host a photograph competition and they were delighted with the number of people who entered, many of who we hope will become new members.

The announcement of the prize winners will also take place next week.

Additionally, the club will be involved in Culture Night, Friday September 19.

More details on the club exhibition and competition will be available in next week’s paper and on the club website.

The main aim of Mullingar Camera Club is enjoying photography and helping one another improve photographic skills. Whatever level in photography, there is always something to learn. They try to promote creativity through photography, to share and critique the photographs of members, to educate, to improve technical skills, and to spread a passion for photography.

The club have a digital darkroom in addition to studio light equipment which members can use.

The annual membership fee is €100.
