U16s and U18s come home from UK trip with two wins
Mullingar Rugby Club’s Under-16 and Under-18 girls enjoyed a remarkable weekend on 6th–7th September as they travelled to the UK for a rugby tour that will live long in the memory.
The girls played two competitive fixtures against Bracknell RFC and London Irish RFC – and came away victorious on both occasions. Securing two overseas wins in one weekend is an incredible achievement and a proud milestone for these young players.
To round off the trip, the teams travelled to Brighton to watch Ireland take on New Zealand in the Women’s World Cup. For many of the players, seeing international rugby at the highest level was an inspiring experience that added to an unforgettable weekend.
Mullingar Rugby Club would like to thank the coaches, volunteers, and parents who made the tour possible. Most of all, huge credit goes to the girls for their commitment, teamwork, and dedication. The club is immensely proud of their performances and is looking forward with excitement to the season ahead.
Nigel Owens coming to Mullingar for Rugby Ball 2026
Mullingar Rugby Club are delighted to announce that the Rugby Ball will return in 2026 – and the legendary referee Nigel Owens will be back in Mullingar as guest of honour.
The night will also feature live music from crowd favourites Spring Break making it another unmissable occasion.
Early-bird tickets are now on sale for €99, but prices will rise to €119 after this weekend. Demand has already been strong, with 25% of tickets sold on the first day of release.
Club President Ciaran Murtagh said: “Everyone had such a brilliant time at our sold-out Rugby Ball earlier this year. We’re confident 2026 will be just as special, if not even better. With Nigel Owens, live music and the great community atmosphere, it’s going to be another night to remember. We’d encourage everyone to get in early, save a few euro, and make sure they don’t miss out.”
