Cathaoirleach to perform ribbon cutting at Cullion Community Playground
Cllr Aoife Davitt, cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council will perform the cutting of the ribbon when the new Cullion Community Playground is officially opened on Sunday.
The event is scheduled for 4.30pm, having been moved back an hour as Cullion are playing a Senior B Hurling Championship game in Kinnegad at 2pm that day, Sunday September 14.
Cllr Davitt, who played camogie for Cullion for many years, said that she is particularly happy to have been asked to perform the cutting of the ribbon because of her close association with the club.
She said the development of the playground is a great achievement and that it is likely to lead to families that are new to the Mullingar area becoming closely linked with the Cullion area.
As a mother, Aoife believes that the development of a network of playgrounds in the Mullingar area is affording children and their parents, opportunities to meet and mix which did not previously exist.
Amanda McGrenery, who spearheaded the development of the playground, said the numbers already visiting the playground have exceeded her expectations. Many of the parents who have visited the playground over recent weeks have commented on the exceptional quality of the equipment and the standard of the surface.
Amanda is hoping that as many people as possible will come along to the ribbon cutting ceremony and that the afternoon will be pleasant, dry and bright.
