Mullingar Camera Club launch exhibition on Culture Night
The launch of the Mullingar Camera Club annual exhibition is at 6pm this Friday, September 19, in the Atrium at the County Buildings. The exhibition highlights the collective talent of club members and presents their images to a wide audience.
The exhibition benefits club members by providing visibility to their images, opportunities for feedback and a platform for selling prints.
It also provide a chance to meet other artists and other like minded people as the exhibition launch is on Culture Night and forms part of that event programme.
The exhibition runs till October 3.
The winners of the Club Open Photography competition will be announced at the launch event.
Earlier in the summer Mullingar Camera Club hosted an open photograph competition for amateur photographers in County Westmeath. Entrants were asked to submit up to three photos of their choice, and the only stipulation was that the photo should be taken on the island of Ireland.
It was the club’s first time hosting a photograph competition and the organisers were delighted with the number of people who entered, and hope many will become new club members.
The photos were assessed by an independent judge and awarded marks out of 100. The standard of photographs was high and the subjects were varied, presenting the judge with a difficult task.
Five photos stood out (three prize winners and two highly commended) and all will be revealed on Friday.
The main aim of Mullingar Camera Club is enjoying photography and helping one another improve our photographic skills. Whatever level in photography, there is always something to learn.
“We try to promote creativity through photography, to share and critique the photographs of our members, to educate and improve technical skills, and to spread our passion for photography.”
The club has a digital darkroom in addition to studio light equipment which members can avail of. Annual membership fee is €100.
