Eamon Doyle will deliver the lecture on Wednesday September 24.

WAHS open new season with lecture on 1798 Rebellion

The Westmeath Archaeological and Historical Society kick off the new lecture season with a talk on the 1798 Rebellion. The speaker is Eamon Doyle, a native of Wexford, where the rising was planned and where the major battles occurred.

Now based in Athlone, Eamon has a lifelong interest in history and heritage and has written several books, including The History of Hurling, and March into Meath, on which the lecture will be based.

The 1798 Rebellion marked a turning point in Irish history as the Act of Union followed immediately and all subsequent risings drew inspiration from the Wexford rebels.

The lecture is at the Greville Arms Hotel on Wednesday September 24 at 8pm.
