Works planned for St Mary's Church in Delvin

Cllr David Jones told colleagues of plans to carry out repair works at St Mary’s Church in Delvin, at the September meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

He asked if the district would support an application to the community monuments fund. Funds would progress the conservation management plan along with the town and village application for works to the structure and to a wall that is leaning.

In a written response, the district acknowledged the conservation needs for St Mary’s. It stated that an application under the community monuments can be considered when the scheme opens in November.

“If the members agree, a letter can issue to the Dept of Rural and Community Development in support of the 2025 Delvin Town and Village application submitted,” the reply concluded.

Cllr Jones said the response was “pretty good news”.
