Female duo ‘dragged’ women outside Mullingar Courthouse in ‘feud’ related row, court hears

Two women have appeared in court charged with a violent feud related row outside the doors of Mullingar Courthouse earlier this year.

Rebecca Nevin (27) 50 Ennell Court, Park Street, Mullingar, Westmeath, and Mary Daly (21), Oak View, Clara, Offaly, were in attendance at Mullingar District Court last week following an incident at Mount Street, Mullingar, on March 13, 2025.

Det Garda Brendan Hogan gave evidence of having arrested and charged both women with affray before the start of court business.

The duo made no reply, Judge Emile Daly was told, as Sgt Orla Keenan confirmed the DPP had consented for summary disposal.

Det Garda Hogan said the pair were arrested following a verbal altercation which had initially erupted inside the courthouse and which also involved members of a rival faction.

He said it will be alleged that as members of that family were leaving the court grounds, Rebecca Nevin grabbed a young woman “by her hair and dragged her to the ground”.

Det Garda Hogan said it will also be alleged Mary Nevin then grabbed her mother by the hair and “dragged her around” as she tried to come to the aid of her daughter.

Under questioning from Sgt Orla Keenan, Det Garda Hogan confirmed the incident took place while the District Court was in session.

He added it was the state case the row had arisen from an “ongoing feud”.

Judge Daly accepted jurisdiction and remanded both women to Mullingar District Court on November 20.
