Chairman’s Pairs raises funds for North Westmeath Hospice

The annual Chairman’s Pairs Charity Competition on Lough Lene on Sunday September 28 was a fundraiser for North Westmeath Hospice. Now nearing its 30th year, the event was sponsored by Royal Masterpeace Ltd, a company specialising in the manufacture of nursing home and hospital furniture. The company is a supplier to the hospice movement, making this year’s sponsorship especially meaningful.

Fishing began at 11am and continued until 5pm, after which competitors enjoyed a well-earned dinner provided by David Smyth Catering. The competition welcomed members and non-members, ensuring a lively and inclusive atmosphere throughout, with 78 participants taken part on the day.

Results: 1st, Willie Scully and Gerry Heaslip, 2.12kg; 2nd, Tommy Keoghan and Mark O’Regan, 1.70kg; 3rd, Gerry Feeney and John Donohoe, 1.66kg; 4th, Liam McLoughlin and Noel McLoughlin, 1.65kg

The first-place winners received Southside Angling Centre gift vouchers, and additional prizes included Airflow fly lines.

With its strong turnout, generous sponsorship, and dedicated participants, this year’s event raised some €3,200, and further donations were still coming in at the time of writing.
