Huge drive by Ballynacargy GAA to ensure success of raffle of Massey Ferguson raffle

Ballynacargy GAA have made huge progress with their ‘Massive Massey Tractor Raffle’ but are keeping the pedal to the metal in the final weeks before the big draw at The Rustic Inn in Abbeyshrule on October 31.

Apart from the commitment of the team promoting the draw, what’s driving its success is the main prize – a fully restored Massey Ferguson 35x.

The tractor was previously used for maintaining Ballynacargy GAA’s Moynihan Park, but that work is now done by robotic lawnmowers.

The tractor has been restored over recent months, and Aidan Lyons of Ballynacargy GAA said: “It was fully stripped down over the winter, local man Billy Murtagh did a great job restoring it.

“We have always owned the tractor, and since it became out of a job, we were thinking what to do with it, so we decided to restore it and raffle it off.”

Along with the tractor, the club have many more prizes on offer for the draw on Halloween night. They include a 10-night family holiday in Italy, a Lancin Petrol Generator, a Honda Petrol Power Washer, and multiple smaller prizes.

Committee members have been travelling around the country with the tractor, visiting places as far away as Cork.

Aidan said: “Every weekend since May, we have been going somewhere, and it’s been a massive effort by all of the committee and other club volunteers.

“It’s going really well, and we have been delighted with the support we have got from people so far. We are winding it up now with the run-up to the draw, but there are still some events.”

Asked what the club’s hopes are for the raffle, Aidan said: “Our main hope is to develop the grounds at Moynihan Park, and first on the agenda is a new stand and floodlights for our playing pitch.

“Those things are what we are striving towards, and just hope that’s what we can put the money towards when we are finished up.”
