Conor has designs on more success as ‘Architects’ features in ad
Conor Quinn has had one of his band’s songs featured on Virgin Media’s new TV advert for their autumn season. Conor has had a successful music career to date, having featured on The Voice of Ireland in 2013.
He has also been in a couple of bands, one of which is ‘White Chalk’, whose song featured in the ad.
The band released their debut album, ‘Golden Kids’ in 2019. It went to number one on the Apple iTunes chart then, and still gaining traction now, a track is being used in a Virgin Media advert.
‘White Chalk’ disbanded in 2016, and Conor looks back fondly on that period with his first band: “The lead single from Golden Kids ended up getting to number one on the Apple iTunes chart, which was unbelievable for us. We didn’t expect it at all, and on the back of it, we got to go on tour with a lot of different big acts. “We ended up supporting Kodaline and James Bay, but we disbanded in 2016, and a lot of the members ended up going on to form Good Strangers, which I am in now.”
Conor explained how he felt when the broadcaster came knocking.
“We are all still friends, and in the summer I was contacted by Virgin Media and they wanted to use our first single, ‘Architects’, on their media campaign and promos for their autumn and winter shows.
“It was all very random and out of the blue, but we really were delighted.”
It has prompted Conor and his former band mates to release Golden Kids anew, to make the most of the advert being aired.
“Spotify wasn’t really a thing back then – there wasn’t really an online streaming platform that was popular, apart from iTunes.
“So to coincide with the ad, we decided to re-release Golden Kids as a deluxe edition remastered version with 12 tracks.
“There are five tracks on there that were on Golden Kids, but there are also new tracks that were never released originally.”
This isn’t the first time that ‘Architects’ from the ‘Golden Kids’ EP has been used on television. It was featured on Sky Sports and RTÉ, and was a mainstay on the likes of 2FM.
Besides gaining recognition for a fantastic album and an impressive period in Conor’s career, he intends on pushing forward with Good Strangers and his own solo career. Conor has been working hard on his first solo project over the last year, and that will be released early next year.
