Department decision on TVRS ‘before end of 2025’
An announcement on which population centres will receive funding under the most recent phase of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS) will be made before the end of the year.
The matter was raised by Cllr Johnnie Penrose at the Municipal District of Athlone Moate, when he asked the executive to provide a timeframe on when a decision will be made in relation to the Village Renewal Scheme.
In their reply the local authority said the competitive assessment process for TVRS applications is ongoing and an announcement from the Department of Rural and Community Development and Gaeltacht is awaited.
The TVRS is an initiative under the government’s ‘Our Rural Future’ policy to revitalise rural communities by supporting projects that enhance living and working environments, stimulate economic activity, and address vacancy and dereliction. The issue was also discussed in June of this year when indications were that “expressions of interest” were still being discussed.
At the AMMD the executive said the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht intended to announce the successful projects “before the end of 2025”.
All applications awarded a grant from the department will have the support of the Municipal District and the Community Development section of the local authority.
