Flamers Ltd innovation prize at Repak Resource Awards

Flamers Ltd was announced as the winner of the Innovation in Waste Resource Products or Services Award at the Repak Resource Awards 2025.

The event at The Shelbourne Hotel brought together leaders from across business, environmental, and community sectors to celebrate the positive impact of environmental initiatives nationwide.

The Repak Resource Awards, formerly known as the Pakman Awards, are Ireland’s national environmental awards and recognise achievements in waste prevention, recycling, reuse, circular design, and community-led environmental initiatives.

Sonna based Flamers Ltd was honoured with the Innovation in Waste Resource Products or Services Award, sponsored by DNV.

Flamers, founded in 2009 to divert timber waste from landfill, produces Flamers Woodlogs, a 100% recycled solid fuel that has won All-Ireland Environmental Product of the Year four years running.

Through its Futurisation Project, the company has already doubled production capacity and plans to double it again by 2026, while also investing in robotics, a national distribution centre, and solar energy to further boost efficiency and sustainability.

The upgrades will enable diversion of an additional 20,000 tonnes of timber from landfill each year, making Flamers a key driver of circular economy practices in Ireland’s solid fuel sector.

Repak CEO, Zoe Kavanagh said: “We are delighted to recognise Flamers Ltd for their outstanding innovation and leadership in transforming waste into valuable resources. By turning timber waste into a 100% recycled solid fuel and continuing to invest in sustainable technologies, Flamers is setting a benchmark for circular economy excellence in Ireland’s manufacturing sector.”

The Repak Resource Awards are divided into 12 categories with the winners from each category going forward for the Overall Repak Resource Award, one of the highest environmental accolades any organisation, business, community group or individual in Ireland can achieve.

While the Repak Resource Awards represent a fresh start, they continue a legacy of excellence. Soltec (Ireland) Ltd won Repak’s highest accolade in 2024. This year, Lidl won the top award.

The 2025 Repak Resource Awards are sponsored by AMCS, Circol ELT, Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, DNV, Environmental Protection Agency, European Recycling Platform, Irish Waste Management Association (IWMA), Local Authorities of Ireland, Producer Register Limited, Panda, Repak Re-turn, and WEEE Ireland.
