Student to face trial over alleged takeaway assault
A student is to stand trial accused of assaulting causing harm to another man at a takeaway in Mullingar just over a year ago.
Michael Curley (21), 16 The Crescent, Lakepoint, Delvin, Mullingar, Westmeath, is charged with assaulting his alleged male victim at Mr Chef, Oliver Plunkett Street, Mullingar on August 5, 2024.
Sgt Orla Keenan said directions on the charge had been for summary disposal on a guilty plea only.
Adam Dodd, defence solicitor for Mr Curley, responded to say he had examined the state evidence with his client, who would submit a not guilty plea.
Given that, Sgt Keenan asked for an adjournment to allow a book of evidence to be prepared and asked for a date in December.
Mr Dodd said his client was in university and applied for a slightly longer adjournment period.
Judge Emile Daly remanded Mr Curley on continuing bail to appear at Mullingar District Court on January 8, 2026 for a book of evidence.
