Fire crews hosted public as part of Fire Safety Week

Westmeath Fire and Rescue Service recently hosted a series of open days at its fire stations in Mullingar, Athlone, Castlepollard, and Kilbeggan as part of National Fire Safety Week 2025.

This year’s theme, ‘Fire Safety in the Home’, highlighted the importance of prevention, awareness, and preparedness for all households.

“The events saw an excellent turnout, with strong engagement from families, community groups, and members of the public,” a fire service spokesperson told the Westmeath Examiner, adding that it had been especially heartening to see so many enthusiastic children attending, the potential future of the fire service.

“Westmeath Fire and Rescue Service extends sincere thanks to both the senior management team and elected members of Westmeath County Council for their ongoing support. This support enables the Fire and Rescue Service to maintain its focus on safety, resilience, and community partnership,” the spokesperson said, going on to add that special thanks were due to Westmeath Civil Defence, who joined the events and showcased the invaluable assistance they provide to communities across the county.

“Above all, Westmeath Fire and Rescue Service wishes to express its deep appreciation to all firefighters for their continued dedication and professionalism, and to their families for their unwavering support and understanding, both of which are fully recognised and valued by Westmeath Fire Service and the Fire Authority.”

As part of its ongoing community fire safety programme, the service has a number of smoke alarms available at local fire stations.

These can be issued to those who need them, and for individuals requiring assistance with installation, the community fire safety teams from each station are available to visit and fit alarms where needed. To arrange this service, contact Westmeath Fire Service at 044 934 1794 or email fireservice@westmeathcoco.ie.

The service would encourage everyone to follow Westmeath Fire and Rescue Service and Westmeath County Council on social media for updates on future events, community safety initiatives, and recruitment opportunities.
