Contribution of €95k to support local health and wellbeing
Mullingar Lions Club have donated €95,000 to three worthy causes: Respite and Support for families who have children with Autism and additional needs; Midland Simon Community; and free access to Belvedere House and Gardens for all 18s.
This funding was made available because of the tremendous goodwill and remarkable generosity of so many people towards the Mullingar Lions Club fundraising activities over the last year. In the last three years, Mullingar Lions Club have placed a focus on their project to provide support and respite for families and young people coping with autism and additional needs. When services are broken, inaccessible or delayed, valuable respite care, day trips, weekend breaks and time out for parents is provided.
Funding for assessments and counselling is also available. Currently the support is of enormous benefit to many families on a weekly basis. The difficulties and challenges many people encounter in this area are well documented.
Frank Dillon (project coordinator) stated: “Mullingar Lions Club believe that this funding of €55,260 will now facilitate families in our community, giving them a path forward to make sure they can give their children the best quality of life that is available.”
Mullingar Lions Club, in keeping with their mental health and wellbeing programme, have made a donation of €30,000 to Belvedere House and Gardens to allow free entry for young people under 18, to gives the opportunity to enjoy the freedom, fresh air, exercise and relaxation that Belvedere provides.
David Coghlan (Mullingar Lions Club president) said: “Our message is that everyone needs to mind their mental health, and it needs support. We are keen to promote a proactive approach to mental health and wellbeing. We previously published a booklet, ‘Myself’, to support young people.”
The club, in making a donation of €10,000 to Midland Simon Community, says the support will help them provide vital services to people experiencing homelessness across the region. Now, more the ever, demand for services continues to grow and all support plays a role in sustaining their work.
Mullingar Lions Club extend a word of heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all their generous sponsors, donors and supporters who contribute with such goodwill year in year out. Míle Buíochas.
