Let there be light: progress at last for Chestnut Drive
After more than four years of pushing for the upgrade of public lighting at Chestnut Drive in Mullingar, Cllr Ken Glynn received the news on Friday afternoon that the council approved €86,000 for the work.
Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Cllr Glynn said he was delighted that the officials in the County Buildings and been convinced by the case he made, and he has been “advised that these works will commence in the coming weeks”.
“Additionally, the council are continuing to address public lighting issues in the Greenpark area. I will continue to collaborate with the council to resolve similar issues in a number of estates including Carra Grove, Clonmore, Newtown Lawns and Ashefield,” said Cllr Glynn.
“It’s positive news for the residents of Chestnut Drive, it will bring to a finish this long-standing issue with the public lighting system. I want to thank the council, who were able to find the funds within their own budget to get these works done.”
Cllr Glynn said council teams are already on the ground in the Green Park area working on the lights there, and “this is a boost today to get Chestnut Drive finally resolved, but the battle continues now to get all the other areas resolved as well”.
