Teenager to stand trial accused of violent disorder and stealing handbag
A teenager is to stand trial accused of robbing a woman of her handbag and committing violent disorder in the centre of Mullingar almost four months ago.
William Donoghue (19) of 156 Raheen, Mullingar, Westmeath was served with a book of evidence at last Thursday’s sitting of Mullingar District Court in connection to an incident on July 20, 2025.
Garda Enda Reddan gave evidence of serving the book containing the two charges at 10.45am on the day of the court.
Sgt Sheila Kenny said the DPP had given the go-ahead for Mr Donoghue to be sent forward for trial, and applied for the accused to be remanded on bail for appearance at the next sitting of Mullingar Circuit Court in three weeks.
Judge Bernadette Owens gave Mr Donoghue the alibi warning, informing him of his duty to notify the state of any alibi evidence he wished to rely on within 14 days.
Legal aid, for junior counsel was approved and Judge Owens remanded Mr Donoghue on bail to Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court on November 27.
