Mullingar Christmas lights switch-on this evening!
Excitement is building as the festive season approaches and the county town is set to get the ball rolling this evening.
The official switch on of the Mullingar town Christmas lights will take place as darkness descends today (Friday November 21) on the Market Square. Mullingar Enhancement Group in conjunction with Mullingar Chamber have put a lot of preparation into the switch on event.
Chamber President, James Bourke, said the lights are an integral part of Christmas: “ We are very excited for the lights going up around town. I believe it is extremely important that the lights go up early, in order to support those in retail and hospitality.
“The switch on event will take place from 5pm to 6pm, with the lights going on at approximately 5.45pm. The event will be hosted by Noel O’Farrell and he will be helped by friends from Mullingar Panto group to switch on the lights. We will have plenty of festive music and family friendly entertainment.”
The switch on heralds the start of festivities: “The Christmas lights switch on event is being funded through Winterfest Mullingar 2025. This will include the return of the Ice Skating rink and a town centre market venture with the Taste of Westmeath group,” James concluded.
The Mullingar Christmas light is coordinated by Mullingar Enhancement Group and Mullingar Chamber and is supported by funds from Westmeath County Council.
