Mullingar Harriers to celebrate 50 years of success

The Mullingar Harriers Athletic Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary at a special event in Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar on Saturday November 29. You are invited to join club members and supporters for a Golden Anniversary Gala at the popular venue.

For half a century, Mullingar Harriers has been at the heart of our community, championing athletic excellence, nurturing young talent, and inspiring generations to lace up and chase their goals. Now, it’s time to celebrate this remarkable journey.

On Saturday next, the club invites past and present members, supporters, families, and friends to come together for an unforgettable 50-Year Anniversary Gala Celebration, an event that will do justice to 50 unforgettable years.

Evening highlights

Reception at 7pm – A warm welcome and chance to reconnect.

Dinner at 8pm – A delicious meal in the company of teammates and friends.

Special Guests – Hear stories, memories, and reflections from notable figures who have shaped the club.

A Walk Through Time – Celebrate the achievements, milestones, and magic of the last five decades.

Since its formation on December 1, 1975, when 18 people gathered at a meeting in St Mary’s CBS, the club has blossomed into a significant social force in the midlands, a hothouse for aspiring athletes.

Whether you’ve worn the club colours, cheered from the sidelines, or simply admire the spirit of Mullingar Harriers, this is an event not to be missed. Already this year, half century of sporting excellence was acknowledged by Mullingar Harriers Athletic Club as members launched a commemorative book marking their historic milestone.

In total, 46 club records set by club members, many of whom have represented Ireland, are outlined in the fine publication.

From the club pioneers to present day race walker like Oisín Lane, who was the first Irish athlete to compete in Tokyo in the current world championships, Michael’s encyclopedic knowledge of members achievements were laid out.

The passion of the trio on stage is obviously emulated throughout the club:

"We have the coaches and we have the role models from our current athletes," MC Joan Mulvihill explained at the book launch in Bloomfield House Hotel. "When you read through the book, you see we have 132 people who achieved international status over the last 50 years."
