Loreto College welcomed past and present students to annual awards

The Loreto College Mullingar community were honoured to welcome past and present students to the annual awards ceremony held in the school on Friday November 7. It is an evening to celebrate the students’ achievements from the year gone by. Mrs Sarah Gallagher commenced proceedings welcoming everyone and that was followed by a musical piece performed by Jane Maxwell playing Song from a Secret Garden on the violin.

The first awards of the evening were presented by various subject departments to the Leaving Certificate Class of 2025. The subject faculty awards are bestowed on students who performed exceptionally in the exams, and they recognise the students who worked diligently throughout their two years studying the subject.

The Maths Student of the Year is Eve Hickey, the Modern Foreign Languages(MFL) Award was presented to Bianca Assandoe, the Art Student of the Year award was presented to Hollie Boyle and the Music Student of the Year Award was presented to Alison Keane. The Irish Student of the Year Award went to Clodagh McGlynn, the English Student of the Year Award was presented to Grace Byrne and also the Science Student of the year award winner was Rebecca Maxwell.

This year Loreto added six new faculty awards to the exciting cohort, and the Economics, History, Geography, Business, Home Economics and Accountancy departments all awarded the diligence and dedication of their students. The winners for the awards on the night were; Aimee Meehan, Economics Student of the Year, Lauren Nally, History Student of the Year, Roisin Brennan, Geography Student of the Year, Tori Nolan, Business Studies Student of the Year, Noor Elamin, Home Economics Student of the Year, and Katie Ahearn, Accountancy Student of the Year.

The next celebration commended the Leaving Certificate class of 2025. On their final day in school last May, award recipients were presented with beautiful perpetual trophies, which were on display on the night of the awards ceremony.

Loreto was delighted to be able to honour these young women in the presence of their families, and to reward them with permanent mementos in recognition of their achievements. The school community also formally recognised, in the presence of her parents and wider school community, the recipient of the 3rd Year Student of the Year Award for 2025, Jennifer McGlynn.

Fifth Year of the 2024/2025 academic year then received Letters of Commendation from the principal recognising their outstanding house examination results. It is important for the school community to recognise the hard work and dedication to academic endeavours of the students. Those honoured in this awards category have reaped the rewards of their dedication to their studies and academic excellence by featuring in the top 10% of their group in their summer exams. That awards presentation was then followed by a mesmerising performance by Hazel O’Hehir singing In My Dreams from the musical Anastasia.

The Junior Cycle Students of 2025 were next honoured for their academic achievements. Academic excellence is an accolade that Loreto College is proud of and it was a great pleasure to present the students with awards to recognise and celebrate those in the Junior Cycle Examinations of 2025. Both highly commended and exceptional examination results were honoured. Anna McDermott was presented with an award to recognise the overall best Junior Cycle Results in the 2025 exams. Following that, Grainne Heap, Amy Lucas and Jane Maxwell treated the audience to an enjoyable traditional set of polkas.

Finally, the school formally recognised and celebrated the wonderful Leaving Certificate results earned by the Class of 2025. The girls’ hard work and tireless dedication to their studies has earned them distinguished examination results, and Loreto is proud of them all. "We wish the girls the very best in their studies and future endeavours."

Principal Olivia Callaghan closed the ceremony thanking all involved and added some final words: "I hope you all leave feeling proud – proud of what has been achieved, proud of the effort behind each award, and proud of the community we share here in Loreto College Mullingar."
