The Mullingar Town U13 side lost out to Drogheda after extra-time.

U13 stars denied by Drogheda in extra-time

Mullingar Town FC notes

The Mullingar Town under 13 side bowed out of the SFAI trophy after extra-time in the home of football in D'Alton Park, Mullingar to Drogheda Town on Sunday.

The game was played in great conditions in Mullingar Town considering the weather recently. Thanks to Martin Moore – Club President - who keeps the pitch in top condition.

After a very tight 70 minutes of football, the game went to extra-time with the scoreline still 0-0.

Mullingar Town AFC had chances to score, and it was felt the first goal was going to be important.

In the first three minutes of extra-time, Drogheda scored a goal to go one up, but credit has really to go to this squad who never dropped their heads and continued to fight for their team and club.

With pressure being applied by an all-out team effort, Drogheda scored a fortuitous second goal against the run of play,

This squad of players have really stepped up over the last few months and credit to them all they never gave up and kept pushing for a goal. Mullingar Town AFC scored a goal through Conal Murphy to make the last few minutes interesting. The team continued attacking and really can be very proud of their effort as they put the visitors on the backfoot. Unfortunately, the referee blew the whistle to call time on this game and bring the U13's season to an end. All the squad from one to 20 have contributed hugely to the team and club during this season.

Thanks to the management team of Darren Meehan, Terry Gibson, Mark Quinn and Fergus Murphy for all their efforts during the year.

The biggest credit has to go to this team who have continually improved as the season progressed and have worked hard all year to improve and fight for each other.

As our season comes to a close, the last team standing is the under 14 squad who are due to play Shield semi-final next Saturday, December 6, at 11.30am.
