Better Plants participates in cross-border trade mission

Westmeath company Better Plants was one of 20 innovative businesses from across Ireland that took part in InterTradeIreland’s two-day Cross-Border Trade Mission to Northern Ireland, focused on the agri-tech and agri-manufacturing sectors.

Running on November 25–27, it was part of InterTradeIreland’s ‘Trade Missions @Home’ initiative, a programme designed to help businesses fast-track export opportunities and accelerate sales growth in the cross-border market.

Over the two days, the participating companies took part in arranged sales meetings and networking sessions with potential buyers and partners in Northern Ireland, supported by InterTradeIreland’s trade experts.

Better Plants, founded by vegetable gardener and surfer Ollie Greene, produces organic seaweed-based fertilisers that help gardeners and farmers across Ireland and Europe grow sustainably and naturally.

Ollie said: “Better Plants is focused on expanding its export markets, and Northern Ireland is a key growth area. Our goal is to bring Better Plants to more countries and beyond, while continuing to support sustainable farming and gardening practices through innovative, natural products made here in Ireland.

"We needed to take part in this trade mission, as we believe we have products that will benefit farmers, gardeners, and greenkeepers in Northern Ireland.”

Anne-Marie McAteer, trade manager at InterTradeIreland, said the agri-tech and manufacturing sectors are vital for the all-island economy, and innovation and sustainability are at their core.

“Our ‘Trade Missions @Home’ initiative is designed to give businesses the platform, contacts and confidence to take their next steps into new markets. Cross-border trade and collaboration continues to be one of the most effective ways to scale and sustain growth.”
